NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day Tuesday amid repeated opposition protests demanding a statement from Union home minister Amit Shah over police action against demonstrators protesting the NEET-UG paper leak at Jantar Mantar.The House witnessed disruptions from the start of proceedings. It was first adjourned within minutes of assembling at 11am, after opposition MPs rose to raise the issue and demanded that Shah explain the police action against protesters.When RS reconvened at 2pm, deputy chairperson Harivansh attempted to take up govt’s legislative business amid continued sloganeering.Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi introduced Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill amid din. The proposed legislation was listed for introduction in the day’s business. “There is a need to improve and modify the Act made in 2006,” Manjhi said while introducing the bill.After its introduction, Harivansh sought to proceed to the next item – the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026 – which was listed for consideration and passage.However, Rajya Sabha could not take it up for discussion as opposition MPs continued their protest.“So you don’t want to run the House proceedings?” Harivansh asked the protesting MPs before adjourning the House till Wednesday.
