NEW DELHI: A day before the polling in Kerala, BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Wednesday dismissed Congress allegations that he failed to disclose assets in his election affidavit, calling the charge a “sad, desperate effort” by a “scared” opposition to divert attention from development. The former union minister also claimed that it was the last time the LDF and the Congress were contesting separately and they will combine their forces as INDIA bloc in Kerala in the next elections. In a statement to ANI, Chandrasekhar said, “Raising allegations doesn’t make it the truth. This is a simple, sad, desperate effort by a scared Congress and a scared CPM to divert people’s attention from development. If they have evidence, why are they not going to the police and the election commission? They will not do that.”Follow full coverage of assembly elections 2026He also predicted a political realignment in the state, adding, “This is the last election in Kerala where there will be three fronts. From the next election onwards, it will be only NDA, and the Congress and the LDF will come together, officially, as the INDI alliance.”The remarks came after Congress leader and UDF candidate from the Nemom assembly seat, KS Sabarinathan, approached the election commission alleging that Chandrasekhar had not disclosed assets worth Rs 200 crore.“After filing nominations, serious discrepancies have come to light regarding asset declarations. We have formally raised the issue with the EC during scrutiny and will submit detailed evidence,” Sabarinathan said.Kerala will vote in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4. The CPM-led Left Democratic Front is seeking to retain power against the Congress-led United Democratic Front, while the BJP is aiming to expand its footprint in the state after its performance in the Thiruvananthapuram civic polls.
