NEW DELHI: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has ordered the closure of the Red Fort to the public and general visitors from July 15 to August 15, 2026, in view of preparations and celebrations for Independence Day.The order, issued on July 9 under Rule 5 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959, states that the monument will remain closed till the conclusion of the Independence Day celebrations. The decision has been taken with the approval of the Director General, ASI.The ASI has also directed its Website and IT Section to suspend online booking of entry tickets for the Red Fort during the closure period and publish the order on its official website. The Delhi Circle has been asked to give wide publicity to the closure to avoid inconvenience to visitors.
