Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday paid tribute to India’s soldiers, war widows and families of armed forces personnel at the Times Samman Award ceremony, and termed their sacrifice as the foundation of the nation’s security and self-respect.“The unwavering courage of India’s soldiers provides a protective shield to the country and instils confidence in the minds of 1.45 billion citizens. When our soldiers stand firm on the borders, the entire nation sleeps peacefully,” the CM said.Highlighting the harsh conditions faced by the armed forces, he referred to the freezing cold of Siachen, the scorching desert heat, dense forests, and the vast challenges of the sea and sky. Despite these adversities, he said, Indian soldiers perform their duties with unwavering commitment, carrying the spirit of India in their discipline, honour and identity. The CM also hailed the mothers and families of soldiers, noting that while a soldier fights on the frontlines, their families fight silent battles at home every day. He said the awards honoured not just visible courage but also the unseen tears and sacrifices that rarely reach public platforms. He reaffirmed the govt’s commitment to standing with soldiers and their families under all circumstances.Yogi praised the leadership of defence minister Rajnath Singh, noting that under his guidance, India’s military emerged as a modern, self-reliant force. He stressed that national security should remain above political debate, asserting that a secure nation ensures the safety of all citizens. The CM highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s growing role in defence manufacturing under the Defence Industrial Corridor, citing BrahMos missile production in Lucknow and new units coming up in Chitrakoot and Jhansi. He also mentioned drone technology centres in Noida and Kanpur and new aerospace and engine manufacturing facilities, underscoring India’s move away from foreign dependence. The CM thanked The Times of India for organising the event, and said that such initiatives not only honour the armed forces but also strengthen society’s sense of duty towards the nation.
