New Delhi: Eight months after his arrest on the charge of conspiracy in the case related to the unnatural death of Assam’s iconic singer, Zubeen Garg, in Singapore, accused Shyamkanu Mahanta’s plea seeking bail was entertained Tuesday by Supreme Court, which sought the state govt’s response, reports Dhananjay Mahapatra.Mahanta, in his petition, gave a detailed account of how Garg drank continuously in Singapore even prior to the unfortunate yacht trip despite strict instructions not to ingest alcohol. Senior advocate Siddharth Dave, advocating bail for Mahanta, told a bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Joymalya Bagchi that the accused was not even at the site of Garg’s drowning and yet had been named an accused. The bench sought Assam govt’s response by July 27.Mahanta’s petition said the charge of facilitating consumption of alcohol by Garg, despite being aware of his medical condition, had no leg to stand on as he had emailed strict instructions to the Singapore hotel on Sept 17 not to serve him alcohol.
