Lucknow: A sub-inspector was allegedly assaulted and nearly strangled during an anti-encroachment drive in the Budheshwar area, leading police to lodge an FIR against 27 people and arrest two women on Monday.The incident took place around 5.10 pm in Gadiyana-Badalkheda under Para police station limits when a joint team of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation and police began action against alleged illegal cattle rearing and dumping of animal waste on roads and into drains.In an FIR filed by SI Vinay Patel, he said a group of about 20-25 men and two women gathered at the site, abused officials, and obstructed the operation. The mob allegedly attacked municipal staff and resisted enforcement.Police intervention was met with violence, the FIR said. One accused allegedly grabbed Patel from behind and attempted to strangle him. Another accused, a woman carrying a heavy iron chain, allegedly hit him on the head. As policemen moved in to rescue Patel, members of the group allegedly attacked them with sticks, iron rods, and other objects. Govt vehicles were also damaged.Police arrested two women, Khushbun (20) and Afreen (27), both daughters of Abbas and residents of Gadiyana-Badalkheda. An iron chain allegedly used in the assault was recovered from Khushbun and seized.The FIR names several accused, including Abrar alias Bhure, Imran, Saloon, Subil, Sarafat Lal Bal Wala, Atiq, Asif, Waris, Naseem alias Jalimullah, Ranu, Zeeshan, and Nafees, along with 10-12 unidentified persons.A case has been registered on charges including rioting, assault, attempt to cause death, criminal intimidation, and obstructing public servants, besides provisions under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the Criminal Law Amendment Act, said DCP (West) Kamlesh Dixit.
