Lucknow: In a swift, tech-enabled response, the Agra police arrested four men for allegedly harassing an 18-year-old girl and another woman inside a moving bus, within just eight minutes of receiving a distress alert on social media.Police said the incident occurred around 12.27am on April 28, when an SOS was posted on X reporting that a group of men were molesting two women passengers on a bus travelling from Kanpur to Ahmedabad.Acting on the direction of police commissioner Deepak Kumar, the social media monitoring team alerted field units and contacted the women to verify the complaint and obtain the bus’s live location.A team from Rakabganj police station set up a checking operation at Namner crossing. As the bus arrived, police intercepted it and conducted a search, apprehending all four accused on the spot.The arrested men were identified as Ajay Chaudhary (22), Arjun Singh (20), Deepak Kumar (25), and Jaykaran Singh (21), all residents of Kanpur Dehat.PRO to the DGP and in-charge of the UP Police social media cell Rahul Srivastava said: “This operation highlights the power of real-time digital policing. The seamless integration of social media intelligence with ground response enabled us to act within minutes.”“Technology, when combined with swift coordination, can significantly enhance citizen safety,” he said.
