‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ was leaked online in high-quality bootleg format, with millions of viewers accessing the unauthorised copy before it was taken down. The incident marked another significant case of film piracy affecting a major studio release, occurring just days after the movie’s official theatrical debut. Despite the leak reaching a substantial audience on social media platforms, the film continued its record-breaking box office performance as fans flocked to cinemas to see the highly anticipated superhero sequel.

According to Variety, an account named Fredrick Bryan posted a high-quality bootleg of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ on X in the early hours of the day. The leaked video reached 5.9 million accounts with over 143,000 people liking the post and 10,000 people resharing it before the content was taken down around 3:25 p.m. PT. Several other X accounts also posted copies of the film, though most did not remain on the platform for extended periods. Studios typically send infringement notices to those posting unauthorised copies, though keeping up with the volume of posts for the most popular new films remains difficult.
Before ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ Tom Holland ‘s ‘The Odyssey’ was leaked online
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ was far from the first big-budget film to leak online. The previous week, Christopher Nolan’s tentpole ‘The Odyssey’ leaked on X with its own high-quality bootleg. That version reached 2.1 million views within two and a half hours before being taken down with a notice, and the account itself was eventually suspended. In response to the leak, Universal issued a statement: “We became aware of the unauthorised posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.“
