The official trailer of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has finally dropped, and it promises a darker, more intense chapter in the web-slinger’s journey. On Wednesday, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures released the two-minute-plus glimpse of the much-awaited sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker, but this time, he’s completely on his own.The trailer opens with Peter grappling with the aftermath of his decision to erase his identity from the world. As a result, his girlfriend MJ, played by Zendaya, and his best friend Ned, played by Jacob Batalon, no longer recognise him as they begin their college lives. Adding to his emotional burden is the loss of Aunt May, portrayed by Marisa Tomei.Things take a more troubling turn when Peter begins to notice his powers weakening. Seeking answers, he turns to Dr Banner, played by Mark Ruffalo, who warns him, “If DNA is mutating, it will be enormously dangerous.” Despite the risks, Spider-Man once again steps up, determined to protect the city.A major highlight of the trailer is the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of The Punisher, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, who previously played the character in the Netflix series Punisher and Daredevil. The film also sees the return of Scorpion, played by Michael Mando.Fans were quick to react to the trailer, with many praising its darker tone and ambitious scale. One user wrote, “This is a completely different tone, I am expecting a new, raw version of spiderman.” Another commented, “Organic Webbing, Punisher, Hulk, Scorpion….. This movie is Gonna be Legendary!!!” while a third added, “Depressed Spider-Man, organic webbing, Mutation, Scorpion, Punisher, Hulk, The Hand, Boomerang, etc. This is going to be the peak Spider-Man movie ever.”The official synopsis teases the stakes ahead: “Following Dr. Stephen Strange’s spell at the end of the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, the world has forgotten that Peter Parker exists. Four years later, Parker anonymously protects New York City as the hero Spider-Man. While investigating a series of crimes, he uncovers a larger mystery and faces the consequences of his past.”Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film also features Sadie Sink and Liza Colon-Zayas in key roles. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated to hit theatres on July 31.
