A light exchange between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Niroshan Dickwella was followed by the Sri Lankan batter’s dismissal as India moved closer to victory in the opening Test in Galle on Wednesday. With Sri Lanka chasing 372, Dickwella and Jaiswal exchanged words during the 60th over, with Jaiswal challenging the left-hander to attack India’s bowling.Jaiswal, who was stationed at square leg, said: “Come on yaar, there was a lot of shots in first innings. We need to see something, come on.”Dickwella replied: “Yes?”Jaiswal then said: “Yes, I want to see. Come on, show me. Hit him there (pointing towards deep square leg), come on. Why not?”Dickwella responded: “No requirement. Take me (to) IPL, then I’ll hit.”“We will, we will. 100%. Come on, hit him a six, I’ll take you to the IPL,” Jaiswal said.“Thank you,” Dickwella replied. There was little time for the conversation to continue. On the final ball of the same over, Dickwella backed away and tried to slash the ball through the off side, only to edge it behind. The dismissal left Sri Lanka in further trouble at 175 for six at lunch on the fifth and final day, with India needing four more wickets to win the Test.Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja had broken Sri Lanka’s resistance by dismissing captain Dhananjaya de Silva for 59. Sri Lanka had been making steady progress in their chase before Jadeja removed the skipper.India has set Sri Lanka a target of 372 after taking control of the Test in Galle.
