The question of older actors continuing to headline films as leading men has been debated in Bollywood for years. Sunny Deol, now 68, has no plans of stepping away from action-led roles and is set to headline the upcoming period drama ‘Batwara 1947’, where he will share the screen with his son Karan Deol. His approach, however, differs from that of his late father Dharmendra, who gradually moved towards more mature characters during his 60s and 70s.Sunny addressed the discussion around his age and his decision to continue playing the hero. He explained that he has never allowed his age to determine the kind of roles he takes up.“I never realised what my age is. The day I feel from the inside that I am old enough, will be the day I will move out from such roles. I still feel like the same young hero. I have been doing the same thing I used to do before, nothing less,” he said in an interview with Savera Star Talks.Sunny also spoke about his fitness routine, making it clear that his goal is not to build an exaggerated physique or imitate anyone else. For him, exercise is more about feeling energetic and healthy.“I don’t aim for a bulky body or to look like anyone else. I just enjoy, exercise, and feel healthy for 1-2 hours. I start my day like that. I tried dieting but I ended up eating samosa and desi ghee with parantha. I often see my kids and tell them that we used to eat a lot at your age, never even thought about anything.”Meanwhile, ‘Batwara 1947’ takes audiences back to Lahore during the Partition of India in 1947 and the division of Punjab. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions, the film features an ensemble cast including Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur alongside Sunny Deol.The film also marks Preity Zinta’s return to the big screen after an eight-year break. ‘Batwara 1947’ is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 14.
