NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed TMC MP Mahua Moitra’s plea seeking permission to appear virtually before police in a case against her for uploading a provocative post on Facebook. As the MP took the ground that she will be attacked by a mob if she physically went there and eggs may be thrown at her, a bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Sheel Nagu said, “You are an MP? Having taken the plunge into politics, you fear eggs? When our freedom fighters have taken bullets on their chest? These are applications that should not come before this court at all.“Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for the MP, contended before the bench that she should be permitted to appear before the investigation officer through video conferencing.“Why virtually? Because you are an MP?” the court asked.
