NEW DELHI: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the Taj Mahal on Monday with his wife Jeanette, saying the iconic monument was an opportunity to “show respect to the culture of the countries that you visit.”“I have never been there. The only one I ever knew about was the one in New Jersey that the President used to have,” Rubio joked, referring to Donald Trump’s now-defunct Atlantic City casino.“It’s one of the wonders of the world. I think it’s important to show respect to the culture of the countries that you visit,” Rubio told reporters in Agra.He said a gap in the schedule opened up because the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting could not happen until Tuesday. “So it was a good opportunity to see some of the cultural sites here and pay respect to this country.”“There’s so much to see here, such a big country with a lot of diversity and a tremendous history. So it’ll be a good opportunity to see something that is iconic for the country,” Rubio added.Rubio is in India for a four-day visit that concludes Tuesday with the Quad meeting in Delhi.
