LUCKNOW: Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has unveiled an ambitious plan to install three lakh rooftop solar systems across Uttar Pradesh in next three years, banking on strong govt incentives, innovative financing models and growing consumer demand to transform the state into India’s leading rooftop solar market.The company launched its flagship “Ghar Ghar Solar” campaign in Lucknow on Friday alongside Tata Power Battery Storage solutions, aimed at accelerating rooftop solar adoption across urban, semi urban and rural areas of the state.Sanjay Banga, managing director and CEO of TPREL told TOI, that the company expects to maintain a 12 to 15 per cent share in Uttar Pradesh’s rooftop solar market and plans to leverage its network of 52 channel partners across all districts to ensure statewide coverage. We plan to undertake 3 lakh rooftop solar installations across Uttar Pradesh over the next three years, targeting a cumulative capacity of 1,000 MWp.To address affordability concerns, Tata Power has introduced a zero down payment financing scheme, allowing customers to install rooftop solar systems without upfront investment. The company has also launched integrated solar plus battery storage solutions that provide backup power during grid outages, a feature expected to be particularly beneficial in rural areas.Banga said the company has launched the “Mera Gaon, Mera Solar” programme to increase awareness and adoption in villages. The initiative includes incentives for channel partners and community benefits such as solarisation of schools and healthcare facilities.Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, consumers receive a central subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kilowatt, while the Uttar Pradesh government provides an additional subsidy of Rs 15,000 per kilowatt. Combined benefits can reach up to Rs 1.08 lakh for systems up to 3 kW, making rooftop solar increasingly affordable for households.Speaking to TOI, Tata Power CEO and managing director Praveer Sinha said the company aims to install 3 lakh rooftop solar systems within a year nationally and increase its market share in the segment from the current 12 per cent to 15 per cent over the next two years, eventually reaching 20 per cent within five years.“Uttar Pradesh is among the most promising rooftop solar markets in the country. With support from both the centre and the state govt, it has emerged as the second largest rooftop solar market after Gujarat. We believe Uttar Pradesh has the potential to become the number one rooftop solar state in India,” Sinha said.Currently, Tata Power solar roof has installed 77,068 rooftop systems in Uttar Pradesh with a cumulative capacity of 375 MWp. In Lucknow, the company has completed 18,743 installations across FY25 and FY26. There are 390+ Tata Power EV Charging points in Uttar Pradesh and 45+ charging points in Lucknow, which include public, semi-public chargers to promote clean mobility.
