Lucknow: Police in Rae Bareli have arrested a physical education teacher of an inter college in the Sareni area after a 17-year-old Class X student alleged that he attempted to sexually assault her on the school premises, officials said.The accused has been identified as Binda Prasad. Police said he was taken into custody on Monday after the girl’s father lodged a complaint, based on which an FIR was registered.According to the complaint, the student was going to drink water when the teacher, who was in the staff room, allegedly took her into a room and tried to sexually assault her. The student resisted and raised an alarm, police said. Hearing her screams, other students and teachers rushed to the spot, after which the accused allegedly stopped.The student later went home and narrated the incident to her family, following which her father approached the police on Aug 14 and filed a complaint.The father also alleged that the teacher threatened to kill the girl if the family reported the matter to the authorities. The family has sought strict action.Lalganj circle officer Sujeet Kumar Rai said the case was registered against Binda Prasad, a resident of Jhotra Kheda village under Sareni police station, on the basis of the complaint. The accused has been sent to jail, he said.Police said they are investigating the case and recording statements of the student and other witnesses.
