Lucknow: A 19-year-old boy was killed and two of his friends were injured after their motorcycle lost control, hit a divider and rammed into a parked truck in Lucknow’s Dubagga area on Sunday afternoon, said police. Officers said none of the three youths riding the motorcycle was wearing helmet at the time of the accident. The deceased was identified as Samad, resident of Radha Gram Duda Colony in the Thakurganj area. Police said he worked with his father, Sarfaraz, at a scrap shop near City Station.According to investigators, Samad had gone out for a ride towards the Kanpur Bypass area along with his friends Umar, resident of Husainabad and Zeeshan, a Bahraich native. The accident took place near a turn behind the Dubagga vegetable market when the speeding motorcycle went out of control. Police said the bike first struck the divider with force before bouncing into the opposite lane and crashing head-on into a truck parked along the roadside. The impact left Samad critically injured with severe wounds on head and body. Umar suffered a fractured leg, while Zeeshan, who was riding pillion, sustained minor injuries.Locals and police personnel rushed to the spot after the crash and shifted the injured to the Trauma Centre in an ambulance. Family members later moved Samad to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.Doctors said Umar continues to undergo treatment at the Trauma Centre, while Zeeshan was discharged after receiving first aid.The death of the teenager has plunged the family into mourning. Relatives said Samad was a major support for the family. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.Inspector Srikant Rai said the truck involved in the accident has been seized and further investigation is underway.“Preliminary investigation suggests that overspeeding and failure to wear helmets were the primary causes behind the accident,” the officer said. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over reckless driving and poor compliance with helmet safety norms among young riders in the state capital.
