Police said the cause of death would be known only after the postmortem report. On July 11, the teenager, a resident of Mahmoodabad Kotwali, had posted an Instagram story expressing emotional distress over a failed relationship and claimed that the girl had stopped speaking to him.The social media post triggered an automated alert from Meta to the DGP headquarters, following which Mahmoodabad police called the teenager for counselling the same day. Police officers counselled him to overcome emotional stress, maintain a positive outlook and focus on his studies. After counselling, he was allowed to return home with a friend. However, the case took a dramatic turn after the boy’s father alleged that his son was called to the house of some villagers on July 12, where he was forced to consume a poisonous substance.According to the complaint, the teenager’s condition deteriorated when he returned home.
