Toyota India recently launched the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella electric SUV in the Indian market. And now, the deliveries of the electric SUV have begun. Based on the Suzuki e-Vitara, the Ebella EV shares a majority of its core components with its Maruti counterpart. This reveal marks a key milestone for Toyota, marking its entry into India’s mass-market EV segment with a mid-size electric SUV that will take on competitors like the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara.Toyota has priced the top-spec Ebella E3 at Rs 23.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme, it offers at an introductory vehicle price of Rs 15.25 lakh, with battery usage charged at Rs 4.99 per km. The Ebella is offered in three variants: E1, E2 and E3. The top-spec E3 is Rs 3.60 lakh costlier than the corresponding Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara variant, which is priced at Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Toyota is yet to announce prices for the E1 and E2 trims.The Urban Cruiser Ebella is available in two battery pack options – 49kWh or a 61kWh battery pack. The 49kWh battery will come paired with a single motor placed on the front axle, which puts out 144hp. The bigger 61kWh battery also gets single-motor, but here it puts out 174hp. Both motors produce identical 189Nm of torque. Talking about range, the EV has a claimed range of 440 km with the 49 kWh battery pack, while the larger 61 kWh version is rated at 543 km on a single charge.Features-wise, the EV gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen supported by wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cloud-based navigation, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting with 12 colour options and ventilated front seats. Apart from that, it gets features such as wireless charging, a JBL sound system, automatic climate control, multiple USB ports, and an in-cabin air purifier. In terms of safety, the model gets seven airbags as standard, ABS, EBD, ESP, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS functions such as Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and more.Image source: Capital Toyota/Instagram
