At least two children lost their lives after a ferry carrying more than 35 people collided with a bridge and sank while crossing the Euphrates River in eastern Syria on Sunday.Videos circulating on social media show chaotic scenes near the river as rescue workers and local residents rushed to assist those struggling in the water following the collision.According to the Syrian Civil Defence, the accident occurred in the city of Deir al-Zor, where the ferry struck the bridge before overturning and sinking into the river, throwing all passengers into the water.More than 15 rescuedRescue teams managed to save more than 15 people from the river, while search operations continued for those still missing.The Syrian Civil Defence said emergency crews were combing the area in an effort to locate survivors and recover victims. The cause of the accident was not immediately known, and authorities have launched an investigation into how the ferry struck the bridge, as per Reuters.The Euphrates River is a major waterway in Syria, and ferries remain an important mode of transport for many communities, particularly in areas where road connectivity is limited.
