LUCKNOW: A 56-year-old transporter was allegedly hacked to death in Bahraich late Monday night after he stepped out of his home following a call from an unknown number, with police now probing the caller’s identity and examining call data records (CDRs), CCTV footage and digital trails to crack the case. The victim, Ajay Dwivedi, a resident of Kati Tihara village under Nanpara Kotwali, was found critically injured near the Siswara canal bridge, about 4 km from his home. His motorcycle was found lying over him. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Family members said Dwivedi had returned home around 8 pm after a trip to Shravasti. Soon after, he received a call and left on his nephew’s motorcycle. His son, Manish Dwivedi alias Pawan, said, “At 9:39 pm, my father asked me to transfer Rs 1,000 via Paytm to a mobile number. We did it immediately. By 9:50 pm, his phone became unreachable.”Around 10:40 pm, the family was informed that Dwivedi had met with an accident. However, they suspected foul play on reaching the spot. “He had deep head injuries and multiple sharp weapon wounds on his face. The motorcycle had no damage. It was made to look like an accident,” his son alleged.Police have registered a murder case against unidentified persons. Circle Officer Pushp Singh said, “A special team has been formed. We are analysing CDRs, last locations, CCTV footage and the payment trail. All angles, including the suspicious call, are being probed.”Dwivedi is survived by two sons and a daughter. His elder brother is a local journalist.
