CHENNAI: Taking a strong exception to the alleged ‘vulgar’ remarks of leader of opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, TVK filed a complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) against him.TVK national spokesperson Pazha Selvakumar in the complaint sought action over what he termed “objectifying and sexually suggestive” remarks“We request the NCW to take cognizance of the speech, seek an explanation and an unconditional public apology, and direct law enforcement authorities to initiate legal proceedings under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” Selvakumar said. The complaint follows Udhayanidhi’s remarks at the Thanjavur rally, where, while responding to slogans raised by the crowd during his speech on the Cauvery issue, he used a double entendre that drew criticism from TVK, which described the remarks as vulgar and derogatory towards a woman public figure.Selvakumar alleged that Udhayanidhi, while speaking on the Cauvery water-sharing issue, made “offensive double-meaning remarks and vulgar innuendos” targeting a prominent woman public figure after his party cadres raised slogans. The party said such remarks normalised the objectification of women, undermined the dignity of women in public life and lowered the standards of political discourse.TVK urged the NCW to take formal cognizance of the speech and video footage from the rally and take legal action for “public obscenity and outraging the modesty of women”.
