Lucknow: Two teenagers drowned while bathing in the Sumali river in Barabanki district on Friday, police said. The accident took place near Karsa Kala village under the Ramnagar police station limits.According to police and local residents, Arpit, 11, son of Siyaram and a resident of Puraina village, and Atul (13), son of Dayaram and a resident of Ratanpur village, had left their homes on Friday morning to graze buffaloes.The buffaloes entered the Sumali river. The two boys also entered the river to bathe. Initially, they remained in the shallow waters near the bank, but drifted into a deeper stretch of the river where they began to drown.Other children present at the spot noticed the boys struggling in the water and raised an alarm. Family members and villagers rushed to the riverbank.A Police Response Vehicle (PRV 112) team was the first to reach the spot, followed by personnel from Ramnagar police station.After considerable effort, one of the boys was pulled out of the river, but he had died. Nearly an hour later, divers recovered the body of the second teenager from the river.The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
