LUCKNOW: A swift rescue operation by the Sadullanagar Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district saved the life of a 35-year-old man who became trapped inside a 15-20-foot-deep tunnel-like pit beneath his partially collapsed mud house on Friday evening. The incident occurred at around 8:30 pm in Newada village, where Ram Vilas, son of Ram Bahadur, reportedly fell into a narrow underground cavity believed to have been created by a wild animal beneath his old and semi-dilapidated earthen house. Police said the situation was critical as the unstable structure risked collapsing at any moment. On receiving the information, Station House Officer Satyendra Verma immediately rushed to the spot along with a police team under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police Vishal Pandey, and Circle Officer Utraula Jitendra Kumar.Police personnel called out into the tunnel and heard faint sounds of breathing from beneath the debris, confirming that the victim was alive.Sensing the urgency, Head constable Amjad Khan entered the narrow tunnel despite the risk of further collapse. Working with sub-inspector Durgesh Tiwari, constable Umesh Paswan, and constable Hari Govind, the team carefully removed mud and debris before safely pulling Ram Vilas out of the tunnel. The officers immediately shifted him to an open area, cleaned his face and limbs, and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before he was transported by a government ambulance to the Community Health Centre, Sadullanagar.Doctors treating the victim said the timely rescue and prompt CPR stabilised his condition and that he is now out of danger. The police action has drawn appreciation from local residents, who praised the rescue team’s courage and quick response in preventing what could have been a fatal accident.
