Uttar Pradesh has recorded a significant improvement in its economic indicators in recent years. The state is now listed as India’s third largest economy and contributes about 9.1 per cent to national GDP, according to official government data. The state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is estimated at Rs 30.25 lakh crore in FY2024–25, reflecting a growth of 13.4 per cent over FY2023–24. Per capita income stood at Rs 1,26,304 in FY2024–25. The state has also recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.8 per cent over recent years, indicating sustained expansion in overall economic output. Sectorally, services account for the largest share of the economy, followed by industry and agriculture. Within industry, manufacturing and construction have contributed to growth, while services continue to dominate output in urban centres. The state government data also notes improvements in export readiness, with Uttar Pradesh ranking first among landlocked states in the Export Preparedness Index. This reflects progress in logistics, policy environment and trade infrastructure. At the district level, the top 5 contributors to GSDP include Gautam Buddha Nagar, Lucknow, Agra, Prayagraj and Meerut. The state has 75 districts and 18 administrative divisions, with economic activity increasingly spread across both urban and semi-urban regions.
