Lucknow: Under Operation Kiran, an initiative launched by the deputy commissioner of police (south), the Lucknow police successfully resolved domestic disputes involving five families through counselling and mediation, helping prevent the breakdown of their marriages.According to police, officers from Banthra, Gosainganj and Bijnor police stations intervened in cases of prolonged domestic discord, primarily involving allegations of alcohol abuse, physical assault and verbal abuse by husbands.At Banthra police station, police counselled a couple where the husband had allegedly been assaulting and verbally abusing his wife while under the influence of alcohol for nearly a month. In the Gosainganj police station area, two separate couples were counselled after wives complained of repeated domestic violence and abuse by their husbands, allegedly linked to alcohol consumption over the past month.Similarly, Bijnor police station resolved disputes involving two families. In one case, a husband was accused of physically assaulting his wife after consuming alcohol for about 15 days. In another, a woman alleged that her husband and in-laws had been verbally abusing her for nearly a month.Police said both sides in each case were called to the police station, where officers patiently heard their grievances and conducted counselling sessions aimed at restoring communication and mutual trust. Following mediation, all five couples agreed to put aside their differences and continue living together.The south zone police said Operation Kiran focuses on resolving family disputes through dialogue and counselling, promoting reconciliation wherever possible while ensuring the safety and dignity of those involved. The couples were sent home after reaching amicable settlements, with police urging them to rebuild their relationships with mutual respect, harmony and trust.
