LUCKNOW: A man has been booked for allegedly climbing an 11,000-volt high-tension electricity pole while intoxicated in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, triggering panic among villagers, disrupting power supply and prompting a risky rescue operation.The incident occurred on Tuesday in Parsa Khurd village under Bhitauli police station limits, where Deendayal Yadav allegedly scaled the high-tension pole in an inebriated state and remained perched on it for several hours. Alarmed residents gathered at the spot, fearing he could be electrocuted.Police, on receiving the information, coordinated with the electricity department to immediately shut down the 11 KV power supply, averting a possible tragedy. Rescue personnel then carried out a painstaking operation and safely brought Yadav down.Police said his actions endangered both his own life and public safety, while electricity supply to the area remained suspended during the rescue.According to officials, Yadav turned aggressive after being rescued, allegedly abusing and misbehaving with local residents.Bhitauli police have registered an FIR against him under relevant legal provisions and launched an investigation.Bhitauli Station House Officer Satyendra Rai said strict legal action would be taken against anyone endangering public safety through such reckless acts.
