NEW DELHI: A youth allegedly jumped into the giant cauldron, known as the ‘Badi Deg’, inside the premises of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on Sunday, prompting intervention by shrine staff and an investigation by authorities.According to eyewitnesses, the youth suddenly ran towards the large cauldron while attendants and staff members tried to stop him. However, he managed to jump into the ‘Deg’ before being restrained.The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed within the Dargah complex.Sources quoted by news agency ANI said cash offerings and jewellery were present inside the cauldron at the time of the incident.Following the episode, Dargah committee employees entered the cauldron area and pulled the youth out after considerable effort. Some staff members allegedly beat the youth during the rescue attempt.Preliminary information indicates that the youth is suspected to be mentally unstable, though his identity and the exact reason behind the act have not yet been established, according to ANI.No major damage or serious injuries were reported in the incident.Officials said no formal police complaint had been filed by any party till the filing of the report.The Dargah committee, local police and administrative authorities are investigating the matter and examining CCTV footage as part of the probe.
