In ‘DTF St Louis’, a genre-bending crime drama, Joy Sunday and Richard Jenkins step into a detective world that blends humour, emotion and introspection.Speaking to ETimes about what drew her to the project after working in the hit teen drama ‘Wednesday’, Sunday shared, “I think for me, this DTF was an expiration of silence and of stillness, something that I haven’t gotten to work with much before, and it was really a gift to be able to, sit with thoughts, and especially as we see in episodes, have them played through, and have the audience sit with, my character throughout whatever she’s discovering. I think that was a real gift.”Jenkins, meanwhile, credited the strength of the writing for shaping his experience on the show. “It’s the writing that dictates what you do and who you are, and the writing, and this is just so good. That… I think I was kind of surprised every day. About what happened and how a scene went. Things that you couldn’t consciously figure out, but to play them, to do them. They always ended up in a place that I was surprised at,” He said. When asked about the show’s portrayal of modern middle-aged relationships and what would define its success, Jenkins offered a candid response. “Ratings!” he said, before adding, “I would get her to consider it a success if you couldn’t wait to see the next episode. Because I don’t, that’s the… I think everybody’s gonna take away something different from this. When I watch something, I put myself in that world, which of these characters do I relate to? And I think everybody will hopefully take something different from this.”Sunday, however, highlighted the measure of the HBO series’ success brings to mind show runner, Steve Conrad. She said, “I think I would count it as a success for everyone to understand just the beauty of his body of work, and to go and explore and go back in his archives and see his other pieces, because I think all of his work is just so empathetic, and thoughtful, and considerate, and an exploration of who we are, and who we can be as human beings, and so I find it to be a success if people went back and wanted to see more.“The series playing on JioHotstar that stars Jason Bateman, David Harbour, Linda Cardellini, Richard Jenkins, Joy Sunday, Arlan Ruf, and Peter Sarsgaard, comes to a close with its series finale set for April 12.
