A 23-year-old woman preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was found dead at her home in Dehradun’s Patel Nagar area on Tuesday, police said. The woman, identified as Riya Kumari, had been preparing for competitive examinations and had recently appeared for the NEET exam.According to police, Riya was studying in her room until around 10 pm on Monday. The next morning, her mother found the room locked from inside. When repeated calls and knocks went unanswered, family members forced the door open and found her unresponsive.Police recovered a note from the room. ISBT police station in-charge SI Jaiveer Singh said, “A two-line note was recovered from the room in which Riya wrote that she felt like a burden on others and expressed love for her family.” The note reportedly also contained the message, “Mommy-Daddy, I love you.”Family members told investigators that Riya was a bright student but had been upset about not achieving the level of success she had hoped for in her studies. Police said she had been under stress and are examining whether academic pressure played a role in her distress.Riya had appeared for the NEET examination that was later cancelled amid allegations of question paper leaks and other irregularities. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Police said statements of family members are being recorded and all aspects of the case are being probed. Further investigation is underway.
