Lucknow: A 22-year-old woman and her five-month-old daughter were killed after they fell from a moving motorcycle and were run over by a truck on the national highway in Sitapur district late on Sunday. The woman’s cousin, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained serious injuries in the accident.The incident occurred near Nai Bazar in Ataria town under the Ataria police station limits.According to police, Sunil Kumar, 28, a resident of Madanpur in Lakhimpur Kheri, was travelling to Lucknow on a motorcycle with his cousin Archana, 22, a resident of Girant, and her five-month-old daughter.As the motorcycle approached Nai Bazar, it reportedly went out of control, causing Archana and the infant to fall onto the highway. Moments later, a truck coming from behind ran over both of them, killing them on the spot.Kumar suffered serious injuries in the crash and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment.Ataria station house officer, Lal Bahadur Mishra said police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and the victims’ family members have been informed.A search was launched to trace the truck and its driver, who fled after the incident. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
