Lucknow: Jankipuram Police on Saturday arrested a woman in connection with the death of her husband after an alleged domestic dispute in which she is accused of striking him on the head with an iron griddle.Police identified the accused as Tapasya Singh, also known as Preeti and Priyanka.The arrest follows a complaint filed on Aug 13 by Vimlesh Swarnkar, mother of the deceased, Ashish Soni alias Sunny. In her complaint, Swarnkar alleged that her son was assaulted and killed as part of a conspiracy.On the basis of the complaint, Jankipuram Police registered an FIR under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Tapasya and others. During the investigation, police said they collected and analysed digital and electronic evidence from the scene, which led them to identify Tapasya as a suspect.Police said Tapasya was arrested on Aug 15 from Jankipuram after receiving a tip-off. An iron griddle allegedly used in the assault was recovered from her possession, police added.Investigators said the couple had been living separately for about four years amid ongoing disputes. During questioning, Tapasya reportedly told police that Ashish came to her residence on Aug 13 and tried to take their daughter with him against her wishes. Police said an argument escalated, during which Tapasya allegedly struck Ashish on the head with the griddle, leaving him critically injured.Ashish was taken to the Trauma Centre and later referred to King George’s Medical University (KGMU), where he died.Police said Tapasya cited previous disputes and past cases filed against Ashish, alleging continued harassment even after separation. Further investigation is underway, and the accused’s criminal history is being verified.
