Aizawl: Three persons, including a 24-year-old woman, died late on Saturday after their car plunged into a deep gorge near Riangvaite Run, between Lunglei town and Hauruang village, on NH-302, police said on Sunday. However, their bodies are yet to be recovered due to the depth and steepness of the gorge, officials said. The deceased have been identified as Jerry Lalnunfela (41), Lalhlimpuia (25) and PC Lalrintluangi (24). All three were residents of Hauruang village. While the car belonged to Lalnunfela, Lalhlimpuia was a constable in the 2nd battalion of the Mizoram Armed Police (MAP).According to reports from Hauruang village, Lalnunfela and Lalhlimpuia were neighbours as well as close friends. They reportedly went out in Lalnunfela’s car on Saturday evening, but did not return on Sunday morning, prompting their relatives to trace their whereabouts, which ultimately led to the discovery of their accident.“The terrain at the accident site is extremely dangerous. An excavator that rolled into the gorge earlier could not be retrieved either,” a police officer said.
