Lucknow: UP govt is rolling out a smart signage system across key eco-tourism destinations.Under the project, modern, multipurpose signages will be installed at Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, Kishanpur and Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuaries. The project, with an outlay of over Rs 3.11 crore, already saw the release of Rs 50 lakh as the first instalment.Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said the initiative is part of a broader push to strengthen eco-tourism in the state.A major share of the investment is focused on Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, where over Rs 2.51 crore will be spent on installing modern and visually engaging signages. These will function as ‘smart guides’, offering directions, safety instructions and key information about specific locations, reducing the chances of visitors getting lost.Officials say the signage system goes beyond basic directions. It will mark ‘tiger zones’ and buffer areas, highlight restricted zones and provide alerts related to wildlife movement. Messages such as ‘no plastic’, ‘maintain silence’ and ‘keep distance from wildlife’ will also promote responsible tourism.Additional chief secretary, tourism, culture and religious affairs, Amrit Abhijat, said the initiative will make forest travel both safer and more intuitive. In Dudhwa, safari routes will become clearer with well-marked zones. In Kishanpur, signages will help identify bird-watching points and nature trails, especially for first-time visitors. In Katarniaghat, they will guide tourists through winding routes while also raising awareness about rare species such as the Ganga dolphin and gharial.
