Lucknow: Though the academic session at Lucknow University officially began on Monday, regular classes are yet to start in several departments, a TOI reality check found on Tuesday. At the Hindi department, students said lectures were not being held according to the timetable.“Many of us travel long distances, some even by Metro. When we reach the department, we find classrooms locked and there is no prior information,” said a postgraduate student.Students in the anthropology department reported a similar situation. “We expected classes to begin as soon as the session started, but there is still uncertainty,” said a second-year student. In the political science department, students complained of poor communication. “There is no prior notice or update, which makes it difficult to plan our day or manage studies,” said a BA student. At the journalism and communication department, students said irregular classes were affecting coursework.Students from the education and Arabic departments said despite classes being listed on the timetable, lectures could not be held due to the absence of teachers.LU spokesperson Mukul Srivastava, however, denied any disruption. “We have not received any complaints regarding this matter. Classes are being held regularly as per the timetable,” he said.Senior professor of Arabic and Arab Culture, Prof Ayaz Ahmad Islahi said: “We categorically refute the claims that classes were not held during the opening days of the new session. Regular classes were conducted and all faculty members were present. Any suggestion of systemic failure is baseless.”He added that the timetable usually takes two to three days to stabilise, especially as “We are awaiting the undergraduate schedule from the Dean’s office.”Attendance is also affected as MA second-semester results are pending and first-semester admissions are still underway.”We have put up the UG/PG timetable on the website and informed the students about the resumption of classes. The classes have resumed,” said, head of the political science department, Sanjay Gupta.
