Lucknow: The chilling case of the Aashiana teen, who allegedly gunned down his father inside their own home, has again exposed a disturbing pattern of homes turning into crime scenes and blood ties snapping under pressure. Lucknow has witnessed many such shocking intra-family murders over the years, each driven by simmering tensions, secrets, or sudden rage. Last year in June, a man brutally stabbed his 19-year-old stepdaughter to death in Mahanagar following a domestic dispute, even injuring his wife, Rekha Rajput, who tried to intervene. In another horrifying incident in 2020, a minor girl allegedly shot her mother and brother dead at her father’s official residence, leaving investigators grappling with unanswered questions. Perhaps the most gruesome was the 2018 Banthra massacre, where Ajay (45) and his son Avinash (20) wiped out six members of their own family over a property dispute before calmly surrendering to police. Equally baffling was the 2018 Darul Shafa case, where Meera Yadav, wife of a senior political figure, allegedly strangled her son Abhjeet to death. The case was riddled with mystery, including suspicions of a third person and a partially burnt stole found at the scene. A year earlier, in 2017, civil services aspirant Martina Gupta was shot dead by her father at their Eldeco residence. Investigators later revealed underlying tensions over her personal relationship. Crime branch officials noted similarities across these cases. “In most incidents, there was no sign of forced entry or involvement of outsiders. The accused did not flee and, interestingly, police in most cases were alerted by a third party,” said an officer. So far out of all these cases conviction was achieved only in Banthra massacre case in 2025, while the cases are on trial.
