AGARTALA: Two suspected Bangladeshi smugglers were killed when BSF jawans fired at them in self-defence along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala Friday night. The incident took place near Kamalasagar border outpost, an area known for smuggling activities allegedly aided by villagers on both sides of the border. According to sources, a BSF patrol spotted a group of 10-15 people transferring goods across the border fence to their Indian counterparts under cover of darkness. When challenged, the smugglers allegedly began pelting stones at the troops, who opened fire. The two men were injured and fell to the ground. They were identified as Nabin Hussain (20) and Md Moorsalin (40). They were taken to a hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival. Cops said the injured had admitted to being from Bangladesh and confessed to involvement in smuggling. After autopsy, their bodies were handed over to BGB, police said.
