CHANDIGARH: A cashier at a medical store in Chandigarh’s Sector 11 was shot dead on Saturday afternoon after two masked men allegedly opened fire inside the shop.The victim, identified as Janki Das, was seriously injured in the attack and was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.According to police, the incident took place around 2.30 pm when two masked men entered the medical store and fired multiple rounds at Das before fleeing. A third accomplice was allegedly waiting outside on a motorcycle, and the trio escaped together after the attack.Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sumer Pratap Singh said an investigation had been initiated and police were looking into all possible angles. CCTV footage from the area is being collected, while roadblocks have been placed across the city to trace the accused.SSP Sumer Pratap Singh said, “This incident took place today at 2:30 PM. Two masked individuals arrived at the shop here. They launched a barrage of gunfire at the shop’s employee, Janki Das, and subsequently managed to flee the scene. An accomplice was waiting outside on a motorcycle, and all three of them escaped together. The investigation is currently at a very preliminary stage. We are exploring every possibility.“He further added, “The shop owner hadn’t received any threats before this… He (Janki Das) has passed away. A total of thirteen rounds were fired… This individual was a resident of Dhanas and worked as a cashier at the shop…. The person on the motorcycle did not come inside. He was standing outside. We are obtaining CCTV footage and gathering information about him… We have initiated roadblocks across the city, and we are making every effort to catch them.“Police said the motorcycle-borne accomplice did not enter the shop and remained outside during the shooting. Officials are examining CCTV footage and collecting details about the attackers.The victim was a resident of Dhanas and worked as a cashier at the medical store, police said. The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established.
