COIMBATORE: Some songs from films starring Vijay and a few others associated with the ruling TVK’s election campaigns were played during the convocation ceremonies at the ESI Medical College and the Coimbatore Medical College held on Saturday, sparking a controversy. Ministers K G Arunraj, V Sampath Kumar and K Vignesh, district collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar were among those who participated in the convocations. Before the proceedings began, “Raavana Mavanda” and “Oru Pere Varalaru” songs from chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s yet-to-be-released Jana Nayagan movie were played. As students approached the stage one by one to receive their degrees, TVK campaign song “Na thannanthani aalu” and TVK viral campaign BGM were played at a very high volume. As health minister Arunraj was leaving after his address, a TVK party song was played in the background. A few other Vijay movie songs and “Make way for the King” song from Allu Arjun’s Raaka movie, whose edited versions was widely used for Vijay’s campaigns, were also played.This sparked a controversy with many netizens stating that there was no discipline at govt events. “This is no govt, and the administration has become a matter of joke,” a social media user remarked.
