US President Donald Trump on Wednesday shared a social media post praising the renewed US strikes on Iran after the US military said that Tehran struck three ships in the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing peace negotiations. In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared a screenshot of an X post that read, “I voted for this.” The post also featured an animated image of an explosion with the word “Boom.” The post came hours after the US military struck more than 80 military targets in Iran in what officials described as a direct response to Tehran’s recent attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.Trump also shared a video which showed massive explosion in Iran. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces used precision-guided munitions to target Iranian air defence systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) small boats operating in and around the strategic waterway.“The US strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire,” CENTCOM said.Iran responded by warning that it would “take whatever measures it deems necessary,” raising concerns that the interim agreement halting the conflict could collapse and further escalate tensions in the region. In a post on X, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf listed what he called several “major violations” of the memorandum of understanding by the US administration. These included “violating Iranian adjustments in the Strait”, “persistent threats of further strikes”, “reinstating oil sanctions”, “attacks on southern Iran”, and “continued Zionist aggression” in Lebanon.Issuing a warning to Washington, Ghalibaf wrote: “The era of bullying and extortion is over. It leads nowhere. We don’t fold.”Meanwhile, Bahrain, home to the US Navy’s 5th Fleet, sounded missile alert sirens on Wednesday morning following the American strikes on Iran. The attacks came during the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 during the opening phase of the war at the age of 86.Negotiations on a final agreement were expected to begin after Khamenei’s burial and focus on issues including reopening the Strait of Hormuz and rolling back Iran’s disputed nuclear programme. The latest attacks, however, have cast uncertainty over those talks.
