WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Monday expressed confidence in his ability to manage tensions surrounding the recently reached US-Iran agreement, including concerns over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stance on the deal.Speaking at the White House, Trump responded on how he would prevent Netanyahu from undermining the agreement between Washington and Tehran. When asked about Netanyahu’s reported remarks on staying in Lebanon, Trump said, “Who did he tell that to?” “I’m not going to tell you what I’m going to do, but it gets solved. I’m a problem solver. I get problems solved real fast, including with Bibi,” he added.Concerns over Lebanon remainTrump’s remarks come amid ongoing concerns about Israel’s military operations in Lebanon, despite the issue being one of the key elements of the broader framework underpinning the US-Iran agreement. The continued strikes have raised questions about the durability of efforts to reduce regional tensions and secure a wider ceasefire.Netanyahu signalled that Israeli forces would continue operating in southern Lebanon. Drawing a comparison with the United States, Netanyahu said no country would tolerate attacks on its population without taking action.“As long as we need to protect our people, we will remain in the security zone in South Lebanon. No country would be asked to do otherwise,” he said.‘I don’t do everything Trump wants’Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also pushed back against remarks from the American leader suggesting Israel follows his commands in the Middle East.Addressing the Jerusalem News Syndicate’s International Policy Summit 2026, Netanyahu stated, “President Donald Trump does not do everything I want, nor do I do everything he wants. We are leaders of independent and proud countries; sometimes we don’t see eye to eye.”The Prime Minister emphasised that both heads of state prioritise their respective national agendas, despite periodic friction.
