Bareilly: A family panchayat called to resolve a couple’s marital discord turned ugly in UP after Afzar Khan, in late 30s, allegedly first attacked his wife, Saima Khan, 30, with a knife in front of everyone present, including their children, aged 8 and 5, and then went on to repeatedly stab his mother-in-law, Asma, 54, and brother-in-law, Adil, 20, resulting in their deaths.Police said the incident took place at Rahpura Chaudhary locality in Bareilly’s Izzatnagar area on Monday afternoon, leaving the neighbourhood’s residents in shock. Asma and Adil bled to death on the spot, police added.After seeing her husband stabbing the two, Saima tried to intervene and she suffered critical injuries. Her health condition remains serious, doctors said.Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya said, “We’ll try to record her statement before the magistrate soon. A forensic team inspected the crime scene. We’re in the process of registering an FIR. Three teams have been deployed to nab the accused. CCTV cameras installed in the house will help cops to establish the sequence of events.”According to police, Saima, who got married in 2017, was staying at her parents’ house for the past few days following frequent quarrels with her husband. Members of their families along with some neighbours thereafter decided to mediate.
