Lucknow: Four accused named in the Aliganj building fire case, which claimed 15 lives and left several others injured, were remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday, a day after their arrest, even as investigators intensified efforts to trace the remaining two suspects. The arrests came amid a multi-agency investigation into one of Lucknow’s deadliest fire tragedies in recent years. Throughout the day, teams from the police, fire department, Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted inspections at the gutted structure as authorities began piecing together the chain of events that led to the disaster.Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Babloo Kumar said accountability for the tragedy would be fixed only after a detailed examination of technical and scientific evidence collected from the site.“The entire investigation is centred on scientific evidence and findings. Strict legal action will be taken against all those found guilty,” Kumar said.Police have registered an FIR against four persons, including the building owner and operators of various establishments functioning within the commercial complex. Those arrested have been identified as Virendra Prasad Shukla, owner of the building; Tushank Krishna Jaiswal, director of the gaming and animation institute operating from the premises; Suresh Kumar Sahu, associated with IT networking operations; and Ram Krishna Upadhyay, owner of the pet shop functioning in the structure.Investigators are scrutinising the building’s operational history, fire safety infrastructure, occupancy status, statutory permissions and the validity of fire safety clearances. Officials said records and technical reports have been sought from multiple departments as part of the probe.Following the completion of rescue operations late Monday, the building was sealed and placed under round-the-clock police security to preserve evidence. Entry into the premises was restricted as investigators began a detailed forensic examination.
