Lucknow: Residents of several high-rise societies in Sector-7 of Gomti Nagar Extension have demanded immediate repair of the road near police headquarters, alleging that the pothole-ridden stretch has become a major safety hazard ahead of monsoon. The stretch, used daily by nearly 50,000 residents living in apartment complexes in the area and several others living nearby, is dotted with large potholes and broken patches, causing frequent traffic snarls and accidents.Residents of the area have also initiated an online petition demanding repair of damaged roads in and around the locality before onset of monsoon. They said the appeal has received support from people living in multiple housing societies of the area.Residents claimed the road’s condition worsens after rainfall, leading to waterlogging and making commuting difficult for motorists, school vehicles and pedestrians.Residents said two-wheelers often skid while cars and autorickshaws suffer regular damage due to uneven surface. “The road has remained damaged for months and no permanent repair work has been carried out. During rains, potholes get filled with water, increasing the chances of accidents,” said a resident of the area.Another resident said the stretch serves as a key connecting road for several housing societies and witnesses heavy movement throughout the day. “People are forced to drive slowly and carefully to avoid damaging their vehicles. Emergency vehicles also face difficulty using the road,” he said.Residents have urged the authorities to carry out repair and resurfacing work before the onset of heavy rains to prevent further deterioration and ensure safe movement in the locality.
