Lucknow: Writer Amritlal Nagar’s stories, theatre work and writing lessons continue to guide young readers in understanding society, history and human emotions, his granddaughter Richa Nagar said at a literary evening at Universal Book Sellers in Gomti Nagar on Monday to mark his 110th birth anniversary.Richa Nagar, a writer and thinker at the University of Minnesota, said her grandfather introduced her to theatre and writing when she was a teenager, and urged young people to read his works to engage with literature and shifting social realities.“Amritlal Nagar believed children should not merely read stories; they should learn how stories are created and how characters emerge from society,” she said.Recalling his workshops with children, she said he helped participants develop characters with social, personal, intellectual and emotional dimensions, and encouraged them to shape plays from observation and lived experience. She cited the workshop series ‘Aao Baccho Natak Likhen’ as an example of his effort to make creative writing accessible and rooted in everyday surroundings.Richa said books such as “Boond Aur Samudra”, “Amrit Aur Vish”, “Manas Ka Hans”, “Nachyo Bahut Gopal” and “Gadar Ke Phool” can help students learn about society, history, culture and human emotions, while building imagination, empathy and creative skills.The evening was attended by theatre artist Ashok Bannerjee and Avadh Girls’ Degree College geography department head Upma Chaturvedi.
