GURGAON: A female doctor was allegedly harassed, abused, threatened, and her car was damaged by two men during an incident in Gurgaon’s South City-II area on Tuesday evening. Police have arrested one person in connection with the case and are making efforts to trace the second accused. The incident took place around 4 pm when the woman, a resident of Sohna, had come to the South City-II area for some work. According to sources, while she and her husband were passing near Shishpal Vihar, two youths travelling in a Delhi-registered vehicle allegedly blocked their car. Sources said that as soon as the woman stopped her vehicle, the two accused allegedly started molesting her and behaved in an objectionable manner. “When she protested and told them that she would call the police, the accused allegedly became aggressive and started abusing her.” The accused, who was driving a black Toyota car, allegedly objected to the movement of the woman’s vehicle, following which the confrontation escalated, it added. The woman alleged that the accused then attacked her vehicle and damaged its windshield. As people started gathering near the spot, the two men allegedly fled from the area in their vehicle after threatening her with consequences and harm. The woman later approached Sadar police station. Based on her complaint, police registered an FIR under Sections 324(4) (mischief causing damage), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75(2) (sexual harassment), 79 (acts or words intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “During the investigation, one of the accused was identified and arrested on June 10. The accused was identified as Paras Thakaran, a resident of Malibu Town in Sector 47, Gurgaon,” police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said. Police said that during questioning, it was found that an argument broke out between the woman and the accused while their vehicles were overtaking each other near a turn. Police added that further legal action will be taken as per procedure. The investigation is underway to identify and arrest the second accused involved in the incident.
