Lucknow: Irrigation department has served notice to 25 dwellings that came up illegally on govt land along the slope of the Haider Canal embankment in Dalibagh area, while clarifying that houses built under a central govt housing scheme were not the target of the action.According to an official statement, local residents had attempted to encroach on govt land falling under irrigation department’s jurisdiction. A joint team comprising irrigation officials, revenue personnel and police reached the site and initiated action as per rules.During the drive, the team identified illegal occupations and pasted notices directing occupants of huts and temporary structures to vacate the land within 10 days. The notice warned that further legal action would be taken if the encroachments were not removed within the stipulated period. The department said confusion arose after notices pasted at public locations were mistakenly linked to houses built under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Housing Scheme . “It was clarified that no notice was issued on any dwelling constructed under the govt housing programme and that action was aimed solely at removing unauthorised encroachments,” said statement issued by irrigation department.
