TUMAKURU: In a suspected case of self-harm, a 30-year-old man was charred to death inside a burning car on a national highway in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, about 70 km from Bengaluru, on Saturday, police said.The victim, identified as Nagendra, is suspected to have used a country-made bomb or a Molotov cocktail to set the vehicle on fire near Kallambella in Sira taluk. However, police said the exact cause of the fire will be confirmed only after the forensic report is received.Before the incident, Nagendra allegedly struck a woman, identified as Ramya, on the head with a knife while they were inside the car. She managed to escape from the vehicle despite her injuries, police said.The driver also jumped out in an attempt to rescue her. Moments later, an explosion occurred inside the car, which was quickly engulfed in flames, according to police.According to police, Nagendra had booked a cab from Siddapura near Jayanagar in Bengaluru. During the journey, he allegedly forced a woman into the vehicle.The incident occurred as the car was approaching Kallambella police station on Saturday afternoon, police said.Police team immediately rushed to the spot and found that the driver of the vehicle and another woman, identified as Ramya, were outside the vehicle, while the car was engulfed in flames.After enquiring into the sequence of events, police learnt that there had been an explosion and that a body was inside the vehicle.
