‘Let’s die together’: Karnataka man pulls out crude bombs from pocket after lover ‘refused’ to marry him; killed in explosion | Bengaluru News

TUMAKURU: A 30-year-old man was charred to death after a car caught fire following an explosion on a national highway in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district on Saturday, police said.The deceased, identified as Nagendra, a resident of Ankola in Uttara Kannada district, allegedly set off the sequence of events after attacking his partner Ramya, who was also travelling in the vehicle. Police said the case appears to be linked to a relationship dispute that escalated into violence.According to preliminary information, Nagendra and Ramya had been in a relationship for the past six years, and he had reportedly been pressuring her to marry him. Police said Ramya had allegedly refused to marry him.For the past six months, Ramya had distanced herself from Nagendra. According to Nagendra’s claims, she had even blocked his number.Ramya, who works as an assistant technician (operation theatre) at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Bengaluru, had allegedly distanced herself from him over the past few months.Police sources said Nagendra had arrived at Ramya’s rented accommodation in Byrasandra near Jayanagar on Saturday morning, where an argument broke out between the two. A roommate, Nayana, reportedly witnessed the altercation and informed police that Nagendra threatened Ramya with a knife, warning her that he would kill her and himself if she did not accompany him.He later allegedly booked a cab to Ankola, which was driven by Praveen, and the three began their journey around 11 am.Meanwhile, Nayana approached the jurisdictional Siddapura police station and lodged a complaint. Police traced the vehicle using CCTV footage and contacted the driver, Praveen, who informed them that the car was travelling near Kallambella in Sira taluk.Police said they alerted the driver, asking him to stop at the nearest police station after suspecting a possible abduction.However, during the journey, Nagendra allegedly overheard the conversation between the driver and police and became agitated, claiming that a complaint had been filed against him. He allegedly told Ramya, “Let’s die together,” and pulled out crude bombs from his pocket.He then allegedly attacked Ramya with a knife, injuring her.The driver immediately stopped the vehicle, following which Ramya and Praveen managed to escape. Moments later, an explosion occurred inside the car, which was engulfed in flames, killing Nagendra on the spot.Police said Ramya sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment. Authorities are also verifying claims regarding the explosives and the sequence of events leading to the blast.
