SATHANUR/RAMANAGAR: A week-long mystery surrounding the sudden disappearance of a 16-year-old girl ended on Saturday evening after the Sathanur police exhumed her body from an agricultural farm in Kanakapura. The gruesome crime came to light following a loose-lipped, drunken confession by the accused minor boy’s uncle at a local bar.The victim and the 16-year-old accused, both coming from working-class families of daily wage laborers, had befriended each other on Instagram. Last month, the teenagers eloped from Bengaluru. The girl had reportedly informed her parents that she was moving to Sathanur in Kanakapura to live with a friend. Instead, the minor couple began living together in the area, finding work as daily wage earners. According to police sources, the tragedy struck on July 10. The boy reportedly spotted the girl chatting with someone on her mobile phone. Driven by suspicion and rage, a heated argument ensued. In a fit of anger, the boy fetched a double-barrel gun belonging to his uncle and aimed it at her to intimidate her. However, the weapon accidentally discharged, killing the minor girl on the spot. Panicked by the sudden turn of events, the boy secretly buried her body near a local agricultural farm in Sathanur later that same day. For a week, the crime remained buried until Friday, July 17. The boy’s uncle, under the heavy influence of alcohol inside a local Sathanur bar, began boasting and inadvertently revealed the details of the crime to fellow patrons. He detailed how his minor nephew had used his double-barrel gun to shoot his live-in partner and how the body was hidden in a nearby field. Alerted by locals who overheard the shocking revelation, the Sathanur police swung into action. On Saturday evening, police teams rushed to the designated agricultural site and exhumed the minor girl’s remains in the presence of local authorities. The police have secured the spot and taken the accused minor into custody. A formal investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events, verify the ownership of the weapon, and determine the legal accountability of the uncle whose firearm was used in the fatal shooting.
