US President Donald Trump on Sunday asserted the conditions around the Iran peace deal, saying that no sanctions would be lifted or assets be unfrozen upfront till the peace deal is reached. In a recent interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press”, Trump , on being asked he would consider unfreezing assets later if not immediately, replied, “Yeah. If they behave, if they do a good job, we start talking. Yeah.” Trump also said that he was not demanding that Lebanon be a part of a short-term deal with Tehran. The remarks came as the conflict, Trump had earlier predicted would end “very fast”, marked 100 days. While a ceasefire took effect on April 8, full negotiations have repeatedly stalled, and a permanent deal remains elusive.Meanwhile, earlier on Friday, Trump had said Iran had yet to agree to a US-backed proposal aimed at ending the conflict, attributing the delay to the resolve of the country’s leadership.“They’re strong, they’re proud, there are things they never thought they’d be doing that they’re going to have to do. They’ve got no choice, and it takes a little while,” Trump said. The US president argued that Iran had operated without facing sufficient consequences for decades and said the issue should have been addressed much earlier.“You’re talking about 47 years of getting away with whatever they wanted. This should’ve been done long ago. This should’ve been done by other presidents or other countries,” he added.
